You have to understand that being a criminologist can lead to see a lot of gruesome things. That is why the job of criminologist is unpredictable.

As a criminologist you can go on the crime scene, you do research for trying to understand the mind behind the killer, his pattern and his motive. Criminologists must also do statistics, so they usually have to compile data.

Everything depends on what kind of criminologist you are. For example, if you are the kind who helps the law enforcement, you have to go on the crime scene when they tell you to, you look for evidences of his pattern or maybe trying to understand his motive. After that, you return to your office and then you look in the database if maybe the pattern of the murderer was used in a previous crime. If not, you have to start his profile and then you give it to the police officer in charge. Sometimes, it can be more tricky than that, and you have a lot of files to look and you can feel overwhelm.

Criminologists learn a lot about the mind and the killer itself when they effectuate their degree in Psychology and the class of Criminal Justice. Nevertheless, it's always better to do additional training. A class in Forensic would be very helpful when you have to go on a crime scene.
